Time for hibernation

So today marks the first day of winter (for us Australians anyway), and with that I thought I would discuss what we have to look forward to (or avoid) this month*

Firstly, this months stinker:

  • Marmaduke – It seems that no-one learnt a lesson from Garfield, I can comfortably say, I will be giving this a wide berth.
  • Killers – To me this just looks like a crappy version of another film coming out this month, Knight and Day. Except, you know, worse. Plus it has Katherine Heigl in it, who is one of the least charming actress’ working today.
  • Grown ups – It has Rob Schneider in it. Enough said.

Now for the maybes:

  • Splice – I am hopeful for this, I kinda like Adrien Brody, and it reminds me of the old Species series, that for some reason I really liked…
  • The Karate Kid – We all know Jackie Chan can be good, although it’s been a while since he’s been on form. This one could go either way.
  • Twilight: Eclipse – I have read all the books (something I don’t often admit) and as horrible as the first two films were, this one has the most promise. I know that Kristen Stewart’s acting in these films is pretty bland, but the girl can actually act, so maybe she’ll pick it up a bit for this one.
  • Knight and Day – I’m not sure why I’m looking forward to this, maybe it’s because I remember a time when Tom Cruise wasn’t bat shit crazy.
  • Jonah Hex – I am always keen to see a comic book conversion, so I will check this out one way or another.

And now the ones that I will be first in line to see:

  • Get Him to the Greek – Besides the fact that I have a tad of a man crush on Russel Brand, Forgetting Sarah Marshall was one of the most refreshing comedies I had seen in a while, so I can’t wait to see what they do with Aldous Snow in his own feature.
  • The A-Team – This just looks balls to the wall crazy. Plain and simple madness, which is exactly what an A-Team movie should be.
  • The Killer Inside Me – The fact that it had such a big effect on the audiences at Sundance is enough of a reason for me to go see it, although the casting of Casey Affleck in the lead role cemented my place in line for this one.
  • Cyrus – I’ve only seen early trailers for this, but it looks like it could be very, very funny.
  • Toy Story 3 – Probably one of my most anticipated films of the coming months (other than Scott Pilgrim). Woody and Buzz are in my opinion one of the greatest on screen duo’s since Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I have no doubt that this will blow my mind, just like 1 and 2 did all those years ago.

Not a bad start to the cold weather.

*These films all debut this month, some of these may not receive a Australian wide release for some time still.

Did I miss anything? Disagree with any of my choices? What are you looking forward to seeing?
